‘The Masked Singer’ recap: Two celebrities are revealed in the semifinals

For the first time ever, Fox’s hit show revealed two celebrities during Wednesday’s episode as the final five competitors – Peacock, Monster, Bee, Rabbit and Lion – put on their best performances.

Peacock kicked off the show with a lively rendition of Calvin Harris and Ne-Yo’s “Let’s Go.” Jenny McCarthy said he’s “going to make it to the end.” Robin Thicke agreed, adding that the masked singer “really brought the crowd alive.” Peacock revealed that he sampled Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” on one of his albums, prompting Thicke to instantly guess “Weird Al” Yankovic. Peacock also let it slip that he knows Nicole Scherzinger, who guessed Neil Patrick Harris.

“Deep down, who are you?” host Nick Cannon asked. Peacock replied: “I have dedicated my life to show business.”

Next up was Monster, who slowed things down with Sam Smith’s “Stay With Me.” His soulful vocals brought tears to Scherzinger’s eyes. “Your voice just cut through your soul. …This is one of my favorite memories on this show.” Her guess: CeeLo Green. Thicke called the masked singer’s voice “Grammy Award-winning,” before guessing ex-Hootie & the Blowfish member Darius Rucker. Ken Jeong thinks the monster is the “frontrunner” to win the competition. His hunch? Jamie Foxx.

As for Monster’s hint about his identity: “I’m a father, a husband, a son, a brother and more than anything, I’m a person.”

Rabbit

Lion brought the house down with Stevie Wonder’s “Don’t You Worry ’bout a Thing.” “This is someone big, a huge star who knows how to sing,” McCarthy exclaimed. Lion said she’s “independent” and “loyal,” prompting guest judge Kenan Thompson to guess Destiny’s Child member Kelly Rowland. Thicke picked another member in the girl group, Michelle Williams.

Lion’s identity hint: “I am an advocate, not a victim, even though I’ve been bullied.”

Rabbit kept things hopping with a performance of the Temptations’ “I Got Sunshine.” Before taking the stage, Thompson guessed Nick Lachey after the masked singer dropped a “chicken of the seas” reference from the reality show “Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica.” McCarthy thinks it’s her husband, New Kids on the Block member Donnie Wahlberg, while Scherzinger thinks it’s another boy band singer: ‘N Sync’s Joey Fatone.

Rabbit’s identity hint: “I have done some work in a costume before in different places.”
